aortic valve replacement during VAD implantation

My dad is in surgery right now for the VAD. The doctors just came out and told us that he had a moderate leak of the aortic valve, which they didn't see on the echo 10 days ago, so they have to replace it. Did anyone else have this done at the time of VAD placement? They told us that it increases risk but we are all trying to be positive. Thanks

I didn't have the valve replaced but they used a percutaneous closer on the valve after surgery failed. Look at wgntv chicago /medical watch/lvad fix. It's not all that bad but its rough on the mind. He may get bloating really bad I jumped up 53 lbs. in a week But it's been over a year And I'm still here and writing to you Kenny

Thanks. My dad is 2 days post op and the new valve seems to be working well, as well as the LVAD. Our newest problem is decreased kidney functioning although the doctor and the team don't seem to be too concerned. We had hoped that he would have come off the vent and aortic pump today, but now we are looking at starting temporary dialysis. We are really nervous but trying to stay positive. Thanks, Aviva

I had to have a valve replaced during my L-vad installation and have had no problems.
