Exercising with an LVAD

I've been trying to get some information about trying to do yoga with the lvad and how to get started. Has anyone tried or is anyone doing it? . At being 63yrs.old, I need some form of exercise; I would appreciate it. Thank you and Peace be with you.

I went through cardiac rehab at the University of Virginia. On one day a week the LVAD patients were encouraged to join a mixed group of cardiac rehab patients where we performed yoga for an hour or so. It was very good, and the instructor pointed out changes the LVAD patients could make from the standard yoga. Good luck

I haven't considered nor talk specifically about yoga with my LVAD team, but I was cautioned to avoid any strenuous extensions (I was asking in the context of golf) that would lead to any pulling on your drive line. I gave up ideas of playing golf until after a transplant, but decided with my "new" health to build a shed. Unfortunately, I overdid it and pulled the drive line ever so little, which led to the only problem that I've had with my LVAD ... a surface staff infection. You don't want to risk that occurrence, as the remedy is to open you up and clean the entire drive line from the motor to the outside. P.S. I did finish the shed before the infection appeared!

I've had my LVAD for just under 5 years now. I had the Bosco LVAD vest (http://www.boscolvadvest.com) modified by Cindy to move the batteries away from my sides and more towards the back. I had to alter my original golf swing a little to keep my arms out, but still enjoy the game as much as I want, which is usually once a week when weather permits in Northern Virginia. Note: If you don't ask Cindy to move the batteries towards your back you will hit them with your elbows and create some whopper sore bruises.

Ive been playing golf twice a week for the last year and my team encourages it! I hate the way each team is different. Just like showering. There are actually some teams out there that forbid it! Too funny. I shower everyday, sometimes twice if I’ve played golf and have never had a problem! Go figure.
