Still struggling with shortness of breath

I have been fitted with an LVAD on December 14th. All of my numbers looked good and I was set to leave the hospital until I had problems with my Bowers's. They just wouldn't wake up. There was a lot of things they tried, finally it cleared up. I have been home since January 11th. I still have shortness of breath while walking she me days worse than others. Still the LVAD team says all of my numbers are good. They put me through some more breathing test (PFT's). They say it has gotten better since I was last tested. Has anyone else been through this?

I have had emphysema for about five years. I was on oxygen during the day but not at night. I could go about two hours without the oxygen, and then I need it. I had a converter in the house and oxygen tanks for when I go shopping, etc. I am 64 years old and in relatively good health. After 8 years on a vad, I still have shortness of breath going up the stairs or an incline. I later realized it took a full 6 months to heal completely from vad surgery, so I expect it will take you longer then you thought. It sure took longer then I thought, but you will wake up one day and realize you are better, when you thought you already were. When exercising early on, I would concentrate on my breathing, and it really helped me. Best of luck to you.

6-10 months after my LVAD I had my weight back and I was exercising regularly. My insurance carrier kept sending me questionnaires on which one of the questions was: Do you consider your health excellent, good, fair or poor. I kept forgetting to ask the doctors how I should answer the questions because I felt, except for the LVAD, I would say my health was excellent. I say this old fellow wearing an MSU baseball cap and I asked him if he had been at Michigan State. He said yes and I asked him if he knew a friend of mine who I thought might be of the same age. He said no, what school was he in. I told him and he said Oh, I was in the medical school and I didn't know anyone over there. I remembered the question and I asked him how I should answer. He said, well, as long as you wake yup on the green side of the grass you can say your health is excellent. I finally remembered to tell my doctors at UVA Med Center about the question and this doctor's answer. They liked the answer. My PRP said she was going to start using that answer with some of her patients. Keep your chin up. Remember you only live once, and live that life as you want to. You can be conscious of the risks, but with that in mind, live. I would rather do that and die early as opposed to hunkering down, doing nothing and living longer.

I had been hospitalized for 4 years in a row all in the same month march, for shortness of breath. They thought it was asthma. The last time which was this year, they hospitalized me for a week. I just found out about this articles that one study found that people who frequently smoke marijuana had more outpatient medical visits for respiratory problems than those who do not smoke. Some case studies have suggested that, because of THC’s immune-suppressing effects, smoking marijuana might increase susceptibility to lung infections, such as pneumonia, in people with immune deficiencies. I have read many articles about medical cannabis and how it can help you in terms of chronic pain, bone injuries, eating disorder/anorexia, anxiety disorders and panic attacks, inflammation, even cancer and a lot more. If this is true I can’t find any solid conclusive evidence that speaks to its efficacy. I have Mar-fans Syndrome which can cause early emphysema. I quit smoking 30 yrs ago but the damage was already done. I feel I definitely get treated differently because of the diagnosis of COPD, and have to fight to stay above the depression I feel because I know I helped short-end my life. I was living with a puffer every so often and then had heart surgery and became much worse as far as breathing goes.
