Cough

Hello I have a question my mom got her Lvad in May and she has recently developed this cough that just won't go away. It's horrible especially at night. It wakes up both up cause it just keeps going and going. I bought her some cough drops it seems to help a little but it's still there any suggestions and is this normal?
