What should we know before my father gets an LVAD in India?

My father, who is now 65, has been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation (AF), and has been recommended a heart transplant or an LVAD. We are still in the process of checking if he's a good candidate for either of those, but I would like to know someone's personal experience with either transplant or LVAD. What are the things doctors may not mention but we should know, the possible risks? Is it better to consider LVAD as a destination treatment or push for heart transplant (although in his case he will have to do a heart+kidney transplant)? 

What's are the main changes in the day to day life of the patient and the caregiver?
